Road Race Grand Prix

2020 Road Grand Prix Rules

USA Track & Field, Inc. (USATF) is the national governing body for track & field, race walking and long distance running. USA Track and Field, Connecticut Association (USATF/CT) is the local administrative organization for the state.
The USATF/CT Road Grand Prix is conducted in accordance with the three USATF codes of authority (Bylaws, Operating Regulations and Competition Rules) and with additional local provisions. This page includes the local provisions and portions but not all of the USATF codes. These codes may be found in their entirety at www.usatf.org -About.

  1. Memberships are on a calendar year basis, and expire on December 31. However, if you join between November 1 and December 31 of the current year, the membership will be valid for the following year as well. You must renew before the scheduled start of the race. The best way to renew or join is www.usatf.org -Products/Services. You can pay the $30 by VISA, MasterCard or Discover. Join using exactly the same first and last names you will use when registering for races.
  2. If you wish to change clubs, you must contact USATF/CT Membership (jwbarber0917@sbcglobal.net 203 392-6811) and compete in an “unattached” status for 90 days. Changes will not be made if another person requests the change for you. Review your membership card or go to usatf.org to verify your club status. If it is not correct and you wish to compete in a race in less than a week, write ray.wise@snet.netand peter.hawley@att.net.
  3. Divisions are separate Male and Female: Open 16+; Masters 40+; Grandmasters 50+ and Seniors 60+. Age is as of race day.
  4. Open Men’s and Women’s Teams score their first 5 team members to finish. All other divisions score their first 3 members to finish. There are no declarations or limits to the number of team members. Older runners may score for younger teams as well as their own team.
  5. Scoring for each race is by chip time, in whole seconds rounded up. Points awarded for each race are: 11, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 to determine year-end standings.
  6. If an athlete not a resident of Connecticut wishes to be included in Connecticut Grand Prix scoring, they must either: 1. Be a resident of a Metropolitan Statistical Area of a city which is in an Association adjoining Connecticut or 2. Have been a resident member of the Connecticut Association for three continuous membership years.
